El Fuego y la Palabra, that is the title of Gloria Munoz Ramirez's book narrating the history of the Zapatistas. Gloria is a Mexican journalist that lived in Zapatista communities since shortly after the insurrection on Jan. 1 1994. Hers is undoubtedly the most authoritative history of the Zs, not only because she has lived among them for so long, but also because the first part of her book is dedicated to the transcription of numerous testimonies of members of the Zapatista communities. |

This tour is organized for the launching of her book in English. She will be in Los Angeles on March 2-3, and the date suggested for her event at the East Side Cafe is Sunday March 2.

INVITATION TO ALL COLLECTIVES AND INDIVIDUALS ADHERENTS TO THE SIXTH DECLARATION OF THE LACANDON JUNGLE IN THE UNITED STATES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CAMPAIGN THE FIRE AND THE WORD
ATTENTION: To collectives and individuals adherents in the State of California, we include an additional message, since yours will be the first state of the tour and we are already organizing the agenda. You will find the message further down below in this email.
Compañeros and compañeras in the United States,
This is Gloria Muñoz Ramírez, journalist for the magazine Rebeldía and the daily La Jornada, to invite you to participate in the Campaign EZLN: The Fire and the Word, in the United States.
As many of you know, this campaign was launched in Mexico in November 2003 during the 10th anniversary of the Zapatista uprising and the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the EZLN. To celebrate those dates, the magazine Rebeldía coordinated the development of a series of materials, which will be presented in 2008 in the United States, in updated versions. The materials are: the book EZLN: The Fire and the Word, which is being published in the US in both English and Spanish editions (City Lights); a musical collection composed of four CDs of ska, reggae, rock, trova, and corridos composed with the influence of Zapatista struggle; the largest and most complete photographic exhibit ever organized on Zapatismo; a series of videos on Zapatista history and autonomy.
The book's author will tour various regions of the United States in several stages in 2008, starting with California, which will be visited from January 31 to February 16 (the proposed calendar for the rest of the country is included in the attached text). The concrete invitation is to organize the presentation of some or all of the Campaign's materials (book, photos, musical collection, or videos) in your communities, forums, community spaces, universities, etc., with the modest goal of continuing to make this struggle known to more people: Mexicans, Latinos, Chicanos, Afro-Americans, and other US Americans (among others), as well as supporting the construction of autonomy of the Zapatista communities, which are the foundation of this movement.
We are sending this proposal to those collectives and individuals who have adhered to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle in the United States. We apologize in advance to any interested collective which, due to an involuntary mistake, may not receive this proposal.
Compas, the proposal is in your hands. We hope that you will make it yours and that we will be able to organize something together. Attached you will find more details on this invitation, on the materials, and on the history of this campaign.

Compañeros and Compañeras from California
We write to you again from the Campaign The Fire and the Word, to greet you and to inform you that we have started receiving your proposals and invitations to present with you one or more of the materials produced by the magazine Rebeldía.
Compas, we learned that some collectives and individuals didn't receive the invitation directly, or didn't receive it at all. We would like to explain that this is unfortunately due to the fact that our lists of adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle in the US are not up to date. In addition, there are other groups who are also interested in participating and whose contacts we don't have. None of the unfortunate omissions was intentional, so we ask your understanding and take this opportunity to reiterate the invitation and to ask you to help us resending these messages to your lists and networks, in order to open up participation to everyone interested.
The presentations in California will begin on January 31 and will end February 16, following a geographical route from San Diego to Northern California.
At this time, in order to organize the dates for each city and develop a general agenda, we ask you to send us your proposals for events.
We understand that some collectives probably don't have a concrete proposal yet or are in the process of defining it now, but we ask you to at least send us your interest in participating and in reserving a date for your neighborhood, community, cultural center, university, etc. This way, we will receive the proposals and we'll start developing the final agenda, trying, as far as it's humanly possible, to include all invitations.
The deadline we suggest to receive your proposals (or your interest in organizing an event) is November 30. We will collect everything and we hope to be able to send you the complete calendar of the tour by December 8. This way, we hope we will be able to start working on concrete dates and activities.

CAMPAÑA EL FUEGO Y LA PALABRA
ATENCIÓN: A los colectivos e individuos adherentes en el Estado de
California les enviamos un segundo mensaje extra, pues será el primer estado
del recorrido y ya empezamos a organizar la agenda. Lo encontrarán bajo este
mismo texto
Compañeros y compañeras en Estados Unidos
Les escribe Gloria Muñoz Ramírez, periodista de la revista Rebeldía y del
periódico La Jornada, para invitarlos a participar en la Campaña EZLN: El
Fuego y la Palabra, en Estados Unidos.
Como muchos de ustedes saben, esta campaña arrancó en México en noviembre
del 2003, en el marco del décimo aniversario del levantamiento zapatista y
el vigésimo de la fundación del EZLN. Para festejar estas fechas, la revista
Rebeldía coordinó la realización de una serie de materiales que próximamente
se presentarán en Estados Unidos en versiones actualizadas. Se trata del
libro *EZLN: El fuego y la palabra*, que está siendo publicado en Estados
Unidos en versiones separadas en inglés y en español (City Lights); una
memoria musical integrada por cuatro CDs de ska, reggae, rock, trova y
corridos compuestos bajo la influencia de la lucha zapatista; la exposición
fotográfica más grande y completa que se haya organizado sobre el zapatismo;
y una serie de videos sobre su historia y autonomía.
El recorrido de la autora del libro se realizará por regiones de Estados
Unidos, en varias etapas, durante el año 2008 y partiendo de California,
estado que se visitará del 31 de enero al 16 de febrero (el calendario
general propuesto para el resto del país se encuentra en el texto adjunto).
La invitación concreta es a organizar la presentación de alguno o todos los
materiales de la Campaña (libro, fotos, memoria musical o videos) en sus
barrios, foros, espacios comunitarios, universidades, etcétera, con el
modesto objetivo de seguir acercando esta lucha a más personas: mexicanos,
latinos, chicanos, afroamericanos y otros estadounidenses (entre otros);
además de apoyar la construcción de la autonomía de los pueblos zapatistas,
que son la columna vertebral de este movimiento.
Estamos enviando esta propuesta a los colectivos e individuos adherentes a
la Sexta Declaración de la Selva Lacandona en Estados Unidos. De antemano
ofrecemos una disculpa a algún colectivo interesado que por un error
involuntario no reciba la presente.

Compañeros y Compañeras de California
Les escribimos nuevamente de la campaña El fuego y la palabra, primero que
nada para saludarlos y para informarles que hemos empezado a recibir sus
propuestas e invitaciones para presentar junto a ustedes uno o varios de los
materiales producidos por la revista Rebeldía.
Compas, nos hemos enterado que algunos colectivos e individuos no recibieron
la invitación directamente o de plano no la han recibido. Queremos
explicarles que esto se debe a que, desafortunadamente, no tenemos las
listas actualizadas de los adherentes a la Sexta Declaración de la Selva
Lacandona en Estados Unidos, además de que existen otros grupos solidarios
que también están interesados en participar y no tenemos su contacto.
Ninguna de las lamentables omisiones ha sido intencional, por lo que les
pedimos su comprensión y aprovechamos este mensaje para reiterarles la
invitación y solicitarles su apoyo para seguir reenviando estos mensajes a
sus listas y redes, con el fin de abrir la participación a tod@s l@s
interesad@s.
Las presentaciones en California iniciarán el 31 de enero y terminarán el 16
de febrero, siguiendo una ruta geográfica de San Diego al norte de
California.
En estos momentos, para poder organizar las fechas para cada ciudad y
conformar la agenda general, les pedimos que nos envíen sus propuestas de
eventos.
Pensamos que, probablemente, algunos colectivos aún no tienen una propuesta
concreta o en estos momentos la están diseñando, pero les pedimos que, por
lo menos, nos envíen su interés en participar y en apartar una fecha para su
barrio, comunidad, centro cultural, universidad, etcétera. De esta manera,
nosotros recibiremos las propuestas e iremos conformando la agenda final,
tratando, en la medida de lo humanamente posible, de abarcar todas las
invitaciones.
La fecha límite que les proponemos para enviarnos sus propuestas (o su
interés en organizar algún evento) es el 30 de noviembre. Nosotros
recogeremos todo y esperamos poder enviarles el calendario completo del
recorrido el 8 de diciembre. De esta manera, esperamos, ya podremos trabajar
sobre fechas y actividades concretas.
